Abstract

Abstract

The use of interactive multimedia helps provide learning materials with a more engaging and informative display, facilitating and enhancing students' interest in learning. Remedial programme need to follow the change as the development of multimedia use in education in Malaysia. This study examines the level of multimedia use for learning and facilitating reading skills amongst remedial teachers. A set of likert scaled questionnaires was distributed to 120 remedial teachers around the state of Selangor. This study uses purposive random sampling. The findings show that the level of multimedia use of the study participants is at high level with the average number (min = 0.747, SD = 4.982). The t-test showed that there was no difference between the level of multimedia use and teacher gender (P = 0.508> 0.05, SD = 0.664). While one-way ANOVA decision shows that there is significant difference between the level of multimedia use and the teaching experience of typical recovery class (P = 0.000 <0.05, SD = 16.522). Correlation analysis also showed a significant relationship between knowledge and (1) skills (r = 0.556, p = 0.000), (2) attitudes (r = 0.698, p = 0.000), and (3) constraints (r = 0.441, p = 0.000). The findings also show that there is a relationship between skills with, (1) attitude (r = 0.529, p = 0.000) and (2) constraints (r = -0.570, p = 0.000). The results also found that there is a relationship between attitude and restraint (r = -0.559, p = 0.000). In conclusion, the level of multimedia use among remedial teachers is at a good level. The implications of this study enable more proactive action to be played by the authorities to cultivate the use of multimedia among remedial teachers by organizing courses to strengthen multimedia skills and emphasize multimedia-based learning.
