PERSEKITARAN KERJA DAN KOMITMEN PEKERJA DI KERETAPI TANAH MELAYU BERHAD (KTMB), KUALA LUMPUR (Working Environment and Workers’ Commitment at Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) Kuala Lumpur)

Abstract


Persekitaran kerja dikatakan mempunyai kesan yang tinggi ke atas komitmen pekerja. Kajian terdahulu mendapati komitment pekerja yang rendah akan mempengaruhi prestasi pekerja dan mendatangkan masalah seperti ketidakhadiran kerja, tekanan, kemalangan di temapt kerja dan seterusnya menggangu kesejahteraan pekerja. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji hubungan di antara persekitaran kerja dengan komitmen pekerja. Subjek kajian terdiri daripada 100 orang kakitangan di Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), Kuala Lumpur yang dipilih berdasarkan persampelan rawak mudah. Dua alat ukuran kajian yang telah diadaptasi telah digunakan iaitu Work Environment Survey (WES) dan Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ). Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahawa terdapat hubungan yang signifikan di antara faktor-faktor persekitaran kerja iaitu persekitaran kerja fizikal, keselamatan kerja, kesihatan kerja, bebanan kerja, hubungan rakan kerja dan teknologi dengan komitmen pekerja. Oleh itu, perubahan aspek persekitaran kerja yang lebih baik terutama melibatkan aspek persekitaran fizikal seperti mengubah stesen tempat kerja, melaksanakan aspek keselamatan dan kesihatan pekerjaan, wujudkan budaya kerja yang selamat, pasti akan menjamin kemitmen pekerja. Akhirnya, persekataran kerja yang baik, peningkatkatan prestasi dan kesejahteraan pekerja dapat dicapai.

Working environment pose a strong impact in sustaining workers’ commitment to the organization. Several studies had shown that the low workers’ commitment were affect to their performance that eventually increase absenteeism problem, stress, occurrences accidents at work and disturbing employees’ well-being. Study examines the relationship of working environment towards workers’ commitment. One hundred  employees at the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) was involved in this study. The two survey instruments which refers to Work Environment Survey (WES) and Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ) were used in this study. The result showed there is a significantly affect to workers’ commitment included physical environment, occupational safety and health aspects, workload, the workers relationship and technology aspects towards workers’ commitment. Therefore, changes related working environment aspect especially on physical working environment factors such as altering work condition and workstation, implementing OSH training and safety culture, will help to ensure workers’ commitment. At the end, a better working environment, improve workers’ performance and well-being can be achieved.
