Penerokaan aset manusia dalam kalangan peserta projek kebun komuniti (Exploration of human assets among community garden project participants)

Abstract


Salah satu program yang diperkenalkan oleh kerajaan bagi meningkatkan kesejahteraan hidup penduduk di bandar adalah program pertanian bandar menerusi projek kebun komuniti. Matlamat utama projek ini adalah untuk mengurangkan atau mengatasi masalah ekonomi, sosial dan alam sekitar yang dihadapi oleh penduduk yang tinggal di bandar. Walaubagaimanapun, kadar kejayaan hasil dari projek ini dikatakan masih rendah dan ada yang menjangkakan projek tersebut tidak banyak yang berjaya. Kajian terdahulu telah mengenalpasti bahawa aset manusia merupakan elemen penting dalam membangunkan projek-projek komuniti tani. Oleh yang demikian kajian ini dijalankan untuk mendalami aset manusia dalam kalangan peserta projek kebun komuniti. Kajian ini dijalankan dengan menggunakan kajian kualitatif yang melibatkan 8 orang peserta projek kebun komuniti. Data dikumpulkan menerusi temu bual mendalam dan pemerhatian turut. Temubual telah dirakamkan dan kemudian ditranskrip secara verbatim. Data seterusnya dianalisis dan diberikan kod, kategori dan sub tema bagi membangunkan tema utama untuk menjawab setiap persoalan dalam kajian ini. Kajian mendapati peserta projek kebun komuniti mempunyai kekuatan dari segi aset manusia seperti mempunyai kesihatan yang baik, masih memiliki kudrat, pencari input pertanian, pencari maklumat, memiliki amalan agama yang tinggi dan tidak mudah berputus asa. Elemen-elemen aset manusia ini telah digunakan oleh para peserta projek untuk meningkatkan hasil tanaman. Aset-aset manusia haruslah diperhebat dari semasa ke semasa dalam pembangunan projek kebun komuniti yang mampan selaras dengan hasrat Kementerian Pertanian dan Industri Asas Tani untuk menjamin keselamatan makanan negara.

One of the programs introduced by the government to improve the well-being of the residents in the city is the urban agriculture program through community garden projects. The main goal of this project is to reduce or overcome the economic, social and environmental problems faced by the residents living in the city. However, the success rate of this project remains low and some expect the project to be less successful. Previous studies have identified that human assets are an important element in developing agro-community projects. Therefore, this study was conducted to explore of human assets among community garden project participants. This study was conducted using a qualitative study involving 8 participants of community garden projects. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and follow-up observations. Interviews were recorded and then transcribed verbatim. The data were then analyzed and given codes, categories and sub-themes to develop the main theme to answer each question in this study. The study found that community garden project participants have strength in terms of human assets such as having good health, having nature, agricultural input seekers, information seekers, have high religious practices and do not give up easily. These elements of human assets have been used by project participants to increase crop yield. Human assets should be intensified from time to time in the development of sustainable community garden projects in line with the aspirations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry to ensure national food security.
