Abstract

The cumulative dengue cases in Malaysia from December 29, 2020, to September 21, totaled 18,995 cases. Dengue was first reported in Malaysia in 1902. This disease is caused by a virus carried by Aedes mosquitoes, leading to dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever. The increase in urban areas, development, and population density has contributed to the spread of this disease. Various preventive measures have been introduced, but not all individuals practice them. This situation has led to a rise in dengue cases over time. This study aims to examine the relationship between sociodemographic factors and the level of knowledge about dengue, as well as the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes of residents in practicing Aedes mosquito breeding prevention measures in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor. The study used a questionnaire method via Google Form, involving 100 respondents. The collected data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software. The analysis results showed a very weak negative relationship between the level of knowledge and community attitudes (r = -0.201, p<0.05). In conclusion, implementing programs to increase community awareness in practicing dengue prevention measures needs to be enhanced. The cooperation between the local community and authorities is necessary to ensure that dengue prevention activities can be practiced by all layers of society and support the objectives of SDG 3 and SDG 11.
