Isu representasi wanita dalam sastera Islami sering menimbulkan persoalan tentang bagaimana bahasa membentuk persepsi terhadap gender khususnya apabila watak wanita digambarkan secara stereotaip seperti watak kakak tiri yang berperanan antagonis. Kajian ini dijalankan untuk menganalisis keperibadian dan perwatakan kakak tiri dalam teks naratif kanak-kanak Cinderella versi Bahasa Arab dengan meneliti bagaimana unsur linguistik seperti kata adjektif, frasa nama serta perbuatan dan tindakan digunakan untuk menggambarkan emosi, kuasa dan hubungan sosial wanita. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif melalui analisis kandungan terhadap korpus Cinderella versi Bahasa Arab berasaskan kerangka analisis wacana feminis bagi menelusuri makna tersirat dalam struktur bahasa dan penceritaan. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahawa bahasa memainkan peranan penting dalam membentuk gambaran terhadap wanita, sama ada dengan mengukuhkan imej negatif atau menonjolkan kekuatan dalaman serta keinginan untuk diakui. Dapatan ini membuktikan bahawa bahasa bukan sahaja berfungsi sebagai alat komunikasi tetapi juga sebagai medium penentangan simbolik terhadap dominasi patriarki dan ruang untuk menafsir semula kedudukan wanita dalam nilai Islam yang lebih adil dan seimbang. Kajian ini mencadangkan supaya penyelidikan lanjutan menumpukan kepada perbandingan antara teks klasik dan moden Islami bagi menilai perkembangan gambaran dan identiti wanita dari semasa ke semasa.

Abstract
The issue of women’s representation in Islamic literature often raises questions about how language shapes perceptions of gender, particularly when female characters are portrayed stereotypically, such as the step-sister who assumes an antagonistic role. This study aims to analyze the personality and characterization of the step-sister in the Arabic version of the children’s narrative Cinderella by examining how linguistic elements such as adjectives, noun phrases, actions, and behaviors, are employed to depict women’s emotions, power, and social relationships. A qualitative content analysis was conducted on the Arabic Cinderella corpus using a feminist discourse analysis framework to uncover the implicit meanings embedded in language structures and storytelling. The findings reveal that language plays a crucial role in shaping perceptions of women, either by reinforcing negative images or by highlighting inner strength and the desire for recognition. The results demonstrate that language functions not merely as a tool of communication but also as a medium of symbolic resistance against patriarchal dominance and as a space to reinterpret women’s positions within more equitable and just Islamic values. This study recommends further research comparing classical and modern Islamic texts to evaluate the evolution of women’s representation and identity over time.
