Usrah Rabbani as a Model for Strengthening Muslim Identity and Morality

Abstract


In the era of globalization, Muslims encounter various negative cultural influences that pose challenges to the preservation of their identity and moral values. To address this challenge, numerous approaches have been explored by different parties to enhance Muslim identity and morality. One renowned approach is the usrah method, which has been practiced since the early days of Prophet Muhammad PBUH's mission. Over time, diverse variations of usrah methods have been developed worldwide to strengthen Muslim identity and morals. However, the development of usrah methods aligned with state or national education policies remains a significant challenge. Therefore, this study focuses on examining a model for enhancing Muslim identity and morals through the implementation of Usrah Rabbani at Sultan Ismail Petra International Islamic University College (KIAS), a private Islamic higher education institution under the supervision of the Kelantan State Government, Malaysia. The practice of Usrah Rabbani is closely aligned with the Kelantan Rabbani Education Policy (DPRK), initiated by the Kelantan State Government on February 25, 2018. By employing textual analysis, this study reveals a substantial level of parallelism between the practice of Usrah Rabbani and the aspirations of the DPRK principles, reaching a rate of 76%. The Usrah Rabbani curriculum comprises 91 verses from the Quran, 23 hadiths, 16 topics on prophetic biography, and 11 topics on Islamic thought. The integration of the Usrah Rabbani curriculum with the principles of the DPRK successfully establishes a model for enhancing Muslim identity and morality. In conclusion, this study highlights the significant potential of Usrah Rabbani as a platform for safeguarding the continuity of Muslim identity and moral values. Furthermore, the orientation of Usrah Rabbani is fittingly recognized as an officially practiced model for enhancing Muslim identity and morals within the formal education system.
