PESARA DAN DORONGAN BERNIAGA SELEPAS BERSARA: MINAT ATAU KEPERLUAN? (Retirees and determinants to do business after retirement: Interest or by need?)

Bekerja sendiri menjadi semakin penting dewasa ini memandangkan ramai pesara melibatkan diri dalam bekerja sendiri selepas bersara. Untuk memahami dorongan pesara untuk bekerja sendiri selepas bersara, kajian ini bertujuan untuk meneroka faktor yang mempengaruhi pesara untuk melibatkan diri dalam aktiviti berniaga di Pasar Besar Sena, Kangar, Perlis. Kajian ini juga bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti sejauhmana perniagaan yang dijalankan oleh pesara membantu meningkatkan pendapatan mereka bagi menjamin kehidupan selepas persaraan. Sampel kajian terdiri daripada tiga puluh orang pesara yang telah dipilih menggunakan kaedah persampelan bertujuan. Temu bual berbantukan soal selidik digunakan untuk mendapatkan maklumat daripada pesara yang dikaji. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa keperluan kewangan untuk menyara keluarga merupakan faktor utama yang mendorong majoriti pesara untuk berniaga di Pasar Besar Sena. Selain itu, hasil kajian juga mendapati bahawa berniaga di Pasar Besar Sena turut meningkatkan pendapatan kebanyakan pesara sekaligus dapat membantu mereka untuk membuat simpanan bagi menjamin kehidupan.

ABSTRACT

Self-employment is becoming increasingly important these days as many retirees engage in self-employment after their retirement. To better understand the determinants of self-employment among retirees, this study aims to explore the factors that influence retirees to engage in business activities at Pasar Besar Sena, Kangar, Perlis. The current study also aims to investigate the extent their busineses help them financially to ensure life after retirement. The sample consists of thirty retirees who were selected using purposive sampling method. A Structured interview and a guided questionnaire were used to obtain information from the retirees studied. The findings show that the need to financially support their family is the main factor that influences most retirees to engage in business at Pasar Besar Sena. In addition, the findings of this study also show that by engaging in business at Pasar Besar Sena, the retirees were more likely to increase their income and thus, enabling them to have life savings.
