Abstract

Abstract: The elderly are less mobile outside the home due to health issues and a lack of family support resulting from evolving economic patterns. By providing mobility companion services, the companion industry may solve this issue. However, this industry faces human resource issues that could impede the development of this business model. This study aims to explore the human resource problems faced by providers of paid mobility companion services for the elderly. This study employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The study location around the Klang Valley involved seven informants, consisting of founders and companion operators. According to the findings of the study, service providers face seven challenges related to employees and companionship professions, including a lack of companion operators, difficulty recruiting employees, the gig environment, issues with employee skills and discipline, safety risks, and the profession is looked down upon. According to the study's findings, the aged assistance industry, such as companionship, faces significant challenges in securing adequate human resources, among other concerns. The implications of this study can assist the government in strengthening existing policies and ensuring the availability of sufficient and qualified human resources in the elderly care industry.
