Penerokaan Pengalaman Mangsa Sindir Badan dalam Kalangan Remaja di Selangor

Abstract


Sindir badan merupakan suatu isu yang sering dipandang remeh oleh masyarakat. Sindir badan boleh menyebabkan pelbagai kesan terhadap kesejahteraan mental dan psikologi kepada seseorang. Mangsa sindir badan berisiko menghadapi kemurungan, kehilangan daya tahan, kekurangan keyakinan diri, isolasi, kecelaruan makanan serta meningkatkan risiko bunuh diri khususnya dalam kalangan remaja. Makalah ini bertujuan untuk meneroka pengalaman mangsa sindir badan dalam kalangan remaja di Selangor. Kajian dijalankan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan kaedah temu bual mendalam semi-struktur. Seramai enam orang informan yang terdiri daripada mangsa sindir badan telah dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik persampelan bertujuan dan teknik bola salji. Analisis tematik terhadap verbatim temu bual informan membentuk dua tema pengalaman iaitu: 1. Penerimaan diri yang pelbagai; penerimaan diri yang negatif dan ketidaksempurnaan yang sempurna; dan 2. Timbal-balik dalam perhubungan; orang yang signifikan tidak menghormati dirinya dan dua sisi perhubungan di media sosial. Kajian ini mencadangkan setiap individu perlu peka terhadap kesan sindir badan dan pihak-pihak yang berkaitan mesti meningkatkan kesedaran dan memberikan sokongan secara holistik dalam membantu meningkatkan kesejahteraan hidup remaja dengan menyediakan intervensi yang sesuai bagi mengatasi isu sindir badan dan masalah imej badan yang berkaitan.

Abstract: Body shaming is an issue that often sees as unimportant by the society. Body shaming is believed effected on mental and psychological wellbeing of an individual. The victims of body shaming has high risks of depression, low in motivation, low self-confidence, isolation and prone to serious mental disorders like eating disorders and risk of suicidal ideation especially among teenagers. This article is aims to explore the experiences of body shaming victims among teenagers in Selangor. The study opted to qualitative approach with semi-structured in-depth interviews. A total of six informants were selecting used purposive and snowballing sampling. The verbatim of the interviews were analysed by using thematic analysis. Two themes emerged to illustrate the experiences of body shaming victims; 1.Various self-acceptance; negative self-acceptance and imperfection is perfect; and 2. Reciprocal relationships; disrespect from significant others and two-sides of relationship in social media. This study proposed to increase the awareness on the impact of body shaming among individuals. The relevant parties also should provide support holistically for helping to increase the well-being of teenagers by providing proper interventions to intervene the issues of body shaming and related issues of body image.
