Abstract

Abstract: The wave of modernization and rapid technological advancement today has given rise to a generation that heavily relies on information and communication technology. As a result, various internal and external influences are capable of impacting them in many aspects. Strong faith and a solid sense of identity serve as the main defense. This study aims to examine the acceptance and appreciation of today's generation towards traditional elements in the Federal Constitution from the perspective of experts. The research methodology uses a qualitative approach, involving interviews with six experts. The experts were selected from the fields of constitutional sociology, law, history, and nation-building. The interviews reveal insights into various aspects, such as the moderate use of the Malay language, the social class gap where the elite class has more opportunities compared to the general public, how schools that gather all ethnicities can foster unity, the current generation's lower appreciation of traditional elements compared to previous generations, positive discrimination, Malaysian societal unity, the preservation of traditional elements, and interracial harmony in Malaysia. The findings also indicate that experts believe today's generation accepts the traditional elements in the Federal Constitution, but their appreciation is somewhat lacking. This is attributed to the use of the Malay language, religious issues being politicized, religious understanding, and dissatisfaction with the status of Malays and Bumiputeras. The implications of this study suggest that efforts to increase awareness and understanding of these traditional elements among the younger generation should be strengthened to enhance their appreciation.
