Abstract

Abstract: An appropriate teaching approach is important to ensure that learning objectives are achieved. Studies on an approach are continuously conducted among educators in an effort to ensure that lecturers' teaching can be carried out effectively, thus enabling students to better understand the content of the lesson. Therefore, this case study was conducted to examine the suitability of the narrative approach applied in the BBM3413 Malay Language Research Methods course among students in higher education institutions. This case study was conducted throughout 14 weeks of lectures in the first semester of the 2024/2025 session. The selection of the study sample was made purposively when all 62 students who registered for this course were involved. The suitability of the narrative approach applied in teaching at the higher education level was made based on the Narrative Paradigm Theory presented by Fisher (1978) which states that narrative allows students to share and receive stories that are appropriate for the individual. Stories related to the process of conducting this research are expected to help students plan and produce their own research. The suitability of this narrative was assessed based on students' comments on the lecturer's teaching evaluation. As a result, students believe that the narrative used by the course lecturers can help provide clear explanations, enable students to understand the topics being taught, create a sense of friendliness and friendliness, and make students enjoy learning this course. The findings of this study prove that narrative is suitable for application among students in higher education institutions and not just among children. Therefore, although narrative can be said to be suitable for application at all levels of study, further research and the type of narrative shared also need to be screened to be appropriate for the age of the students. This is because if the lecturer uses a narrative that is not appropriate, this will not only not help students understand the content of the lesson, but will also reduce their focus on learning the course.
