Unsur Sejarah sebagai Strategi Naratif dalam Syair Perang Menteng (Historical Elements as a Narrative Strategy in Syair Perang Menteng)

Abstract


This study aims to discuss the use of historical elements as a narrative strategy in Syair Perang Menteng. The objective of the study is to highlight the presence of historical references within literary texts, particularly those centered on conflict, challenging the common perception that such works are purely imaginative and lack factual grounding. Utilizing a qualitative approach through content analysis, the study examines written dicuments such as as books, manuscripts and texts, focusing on the internal features of the ‘Syair’ that convey historical significance. To deepen the analysis, narrative theory is applied, emphasizing five core components: characters, ideology, author, text and setting, which encompasses time, location and events. These elements serve as analytical tools to reveal how historical narratives are embedded within the literary structure. This study is significant because its demonstration of the interplay between literature and history, affirming that literary creations are not isolated from societal realities. Rather, they function as social documents that reflect and preserve historical experiences. In this context, the author of Syair Perang Menten in a dual role as an author and a historian for the community by chronicling the events of war. The findings contribute to bridging the gap regarding the historical elements embedded within Syair Perang Menteng.
