KEJATUHAN PATTANI TERHADAP KESEDARAN ISLAM DI BANGKOK (The fall of Pattani on Islamic Consciousness in Bangkok)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Pattani is one of the states where the majority of the population is Muslim. However, this study discusses the history of Islamic traces in Bangkok Thailand. Reference material on the development of Islam in Bangkok is greatly scarce. The objective of this study relates to the events of the fall of Pattani by the Thai government in 1603-1838, and it focuses on the freedom to be Muslim in Bangkok as well. The research methodology is based on a literature review based on information processed from secondary sources, such as books, magazines, theses, websites, etc. This study found that the development of Islam in Bangkok Province took place rapidly, closely linked to the awareness of the fall of Pattani through war and the number of Muslims in the province. Additionally, the Thai government's policy that is quite different from its policy towards the Muslim population in the south also allows the Muslim population in Bangkok to maintain its identity as a Muslim community and to actively participate in developing Islamic teaching among the younger generation. Although Bangkok's Muslims have sacrificed one of their racial identities, the Malay language, which is becoming extinct among Bangkok's Muslims, as they struggle to survive among the majority Buddhist community and also meet the demands of the government.
